4-H and FCE news

The Kanwaka Family and Community Education unit plans to meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Ann Haley. Ruth Wyatt will give the lesson on “Serving As a Delegate.”

¢The Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club had a successful time at the Douglas County Fair, the club reports. The club’s August meeting was a parent advisory gathering, allowing parents to visit about goals for the club and the upcoming 4-H year.

The club is planning its regular monthly meeting for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stull United Methodist Church. Election of officers will be conducted.

¢The Clinton Eagles 4-H Club met Aug. 27 at Wakarusa Valley School. Kahlyn Heine, president, called the meeting to order. The song leaders led members in “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.” Secretary Delaney Dieker read the minutes of the July meeting, which the club approved. Delaney read four communications from Emily Morehouse, Brenda Welsh, Lacy Waceski, of the Vinland Valley 4-H Club, and Jake Hetrick, of the Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club. The two 4-H’ers thanked the Clinton Eagles for buying their animals at the Douglas County Fair.

Treasurer Dustin Hoyt gave a report on the club’s finances. Reporter Morgan Manger announced that the meeting report had been given to the Lawrence Journal-World. Kahlyn Heine, County Council representative, notified the club about promotional 4-H signs for 4-H week to be put in people’s yards.

Community leader Lanaea Heine let the club know about chemotherapy care kits, record books 101, the Shawnee County Sewing Workshop, Friendship night on Sept. 29, ambassador applications, Wyandotte County KAA judging, and turn-in dates for record books, KAA and pin applications.

Rod Heine, of the Auction Animal Committee, said the committee bought a lamb and the grand champion meat pen of chickens.

The club voted to budget money for Greensburg tornado relief and the Festival of the Trees. Lanaea Heine announced that the group that went to Creative Fitting and Showing at the Douglas County Fair won first place.

Kim Hubbell informed members that the club was honored for its banner at the fair. Six new members joined the club and were initiated by Kirstyn Heine, vice president. Delaney Dieker announced that the next meeting is planned for 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Wakarusa Valley School.
