Campaign spending in the 1982 race to represent the Kansas 2nd District in Congress seemed likely to top hundreds of thousands of dollars. And each of the top candidates, Democrat Jim Slattery of Topeka and Republican Morris Kay of Lawrence, had been spending a great deal of time attacking the other spending while defending his own. A check, however indicated the Kansas spending was not as high as in the average district elsewhere in the nation.
