Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 4, 1907: “Seventy-five ‘bohunks’ employed here by the Union Pacific went swimming in the river Sunday and one almost drowned. He was pulled out just in time by his companions and is fortunate to be alive. : The annual examination here for local pupils who want to make up studies or skip a class or grade or who are coming in from other cities will be Sept. 6 at the high school building. : Walter Camp, the football authority, says the sport has been greatly improved in recent years with timely rules changes, none of them major but all of them pertinent, he said. Of major importance is better officiating and the backing up of good officials by authorities.”
