Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 3, 1907: “Charles Woodbury, 26, drowned yesterday while swimming in the Kaw near Cameron’s Bluff. The incident took place about 4 p.m. but the body was not found until 10 this morning. He and some friends had rowed to the spot for an outing and friends noticed Woodbury was fatigued when they arrived. He said he would go swimming to get revived and it led to his untimely death. : The biggest topic at the city council meeting tonight is the condition and safety of city water, which has been found less than satisfactory by people of a scientific bent, many at the university.”
