Mighty Baileyville downs Veritas, 58-8

? Jerimiah Johnson’s 65-yard kickoff return accounted for the only Veritas Christian score, and B&B Baileyville beat the Eagles, 58-8, in the eight-man football high school football opener for both teams on Friday night.

“That’s a very good program,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “They had a large number of returning starters and a roster about three times the size of ours. They have a lot of good athletes. They’re a good, strong team. It’ll be interesting to see how they do the rest of the season. They’re a team that could compete for the state title.”

Adding injury to insult, the Eagles lost starting safety/fullback Nate Scott because of a broken arm.

“That’s one thing that hurt us. On a small roster like we have, that definitely hurt us,” Bennett said. “But the guys played very, very hard. We never gave up.”

Isaiah Dover had 12 tackles and Hogan Randell 10 for the Eagles (0-1).

Veritas Christian will play host to Topeka Cair Paravel on Friday.
