— Two former members of Illinois State's football team are facing felony theft charges after authorities said they stole a classmate's wallet.

Cameron Cyril Thompkins, 18, of Sanford, Fla., and Micha Gordon, 19, of Peoria, were dismissed from the team Thursday because of "violations of team rules," said Todd Kober, ISU assistant athletics director of media relations.

Normal Police Sgt. M. Smith said Sunday that the alleged theft occurred in late September near the central Illinois college's campus.

The duo weren't arrested until Thursday, when the state's attorney issued a warrant after reviewing the case.

Each posted a $500 cash bond.

Thompkins' attorney Chris Gramm said his client maintained he "simply didn't steal anything and was not involved with the theft."

Gramm said university officials did not communicate the allegations with Thompkins.
