The White Stripes and Detonators hit the pitch to settle the matter of first place in the Kaw Valley Soccer Association's U12 girls division Saturday at Youth Sports Inc.
A back-and-forth game unfolded as each team traded goals, but in the end the Detonators had just enough to take a 3-2 overtime win.
The Detonators got on the board first as Maddie Woodard drive through the left side of the box and found the right corner past Stripes goalkeeper Mallory McFall for a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Stripes would respond with a pair of goals to take the lead.
First, Sienna Vance took a pass down the middle of the field and launched a shot from just outside the penalty box, which just got by Detonator keeper Emily Robertson. The Stripes' Kaitlyn Johnson put her team ahead with a goal with five minutes to go in the match.
The Detonators wouldn't go home quietly and with only a minute remaining Woodard found the net once again, this time from the right side.
The equalizer sent the game into overtime where the team took penalty kicks. Each team managed to net three goals, before Kayla Duncan put the go-ahead strike in. Robertson saved the Stripes' attempt to tie the game, giving the Detonators the victory and first place.
