Rally falls short in loss to MVC

Trailing Missouri Valley College by four scores going into the fourth quarter, the Baker University football team did the best it could.

The Wildcats scored 20 straight points, including a 40-yard interception return by Eric Allen, but it wasn’t enough. MVC held off Baker, 34-20, on Saturday.

Missouri Valley scored on its second possession on a seven-yard pass from Chris White to Javion Jones, and the Wildcats had to play catch-up the rest of the game. As a result, they attempted 43 passes. Quarterbacks Mack Brown and Bradley Kendall combined to complete 20, including Kendall’s five-yard touchdown pass to Richie Bryant that made the score 34-17.

Marcus Nolan paced the Baker offense with nine catches for 138 yards.

Derek Doerfler hit a 35-yard field goal to conclude the scoring. His ensuing onsides kick attempt was unsuccessful, ending any hopes of an improbable comeback.

Doerfler also connected on a 43-yard field goal and missed from 35.

MVC snapped Baker’s three-game winning streak. The Wildcats fell to 5-4 on the season and will play host to MidAmerica Nazarene next Saturday in their home finale.
