Company to collect coats for needy

On Monday, Scotch Fabric Care will begin collecting coats for its 21st annual Share the Warmth program.

The collection will continue through Nov. 24.

Since the program’s inception in 1986, Scotch has collected and cleaned more than 163,331 coats in Lawrence and Topeka.

Scotch cleans the coats and works with the Salvation Army to distribute them to people who need them. Groups interested in collecting coats for the program are asked to contact Scott Shmalberg, president of Scotch Industries, to make arrangements.

There is a need for children’s, men’s and women’s larger-size coats. Blankets, scarves and matched gloves also will be accepted and cleaned before distribution.

Coats will be given away in early December.

Anyone wishing to donate coats, in good condition, may drop them off at any Lawrence or Topeka Scotch locations.

Lawrence locations include 1029 N.H.; Sixth and Florida; 1526 W. 23rd St.; and Sixth and Wakarusa.
