Daphne Phillips has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Scout can receive. A ceremony in her honor is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church’s Holy Family Hall. She is a member of Troop 720 in Lawrence.

For her Gold Award project, Phillips worked with the Kansas Trails Council to restore trails at Clinton State Park. The project involved significant rerouting of the Blue Trail near the east trailhead to alleviate erosion problems. The new trail meanders along the edge of the lake with views of Sanders Mound and Clinton Marina.

Phillips, who is in her 12th year as an active Girl Scout, has earned the Cadette and Senior Leadership pins along with 35 Interest Project badges.

She earned the Girl Scout Silver Award by planning Night Prowl, an all-night event for Teen Scouts of Douglas County. Her Girl Scout Bronze Award project involved volunteering at the Lawrence Humane Society while a Junior Scout. She completed two years of camp counselor training at Camp Daisy Hindman.

Phillips is a senior at Free State High School, where she participates in forensics, the Link Crew mentoring program, and she is an athletic training intern.

She is in her third year as president of the Youth Group at Corpus Christi Catholic Church and volunteers as a eucharistic minister, usher and lector. She recently completed the requirements for the Spirit Alive religious award for Catholic Girl Scouts.
