The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club’s game Oct. 17 was directed by Chris Lane. Marie Icenhower and Clara Elkins placed first in A and B, with David Piro and Paul Heitzman at second in A.

Sally Taylor and Yvonne Hedges were third in A and second in B, followed by Lester Dalton and Betty Collier at fourth in A and third in B. Madelyn Jenks and Virginia Seaver were fifth in A, while Bob Dailey and Mark Osborne placed fourth in B.

¢The Friday Afternoon Bridge Club’s game was directed by Virginia Seaver on Oct. 12. North-South winners were Grant Sutton and Harry Shaffer, followed by Vince Russo and Ed Howard. Lester Dalton and Betty Collier were third in A and first in B, with Barbara McCorkle and Frances Vogel at second in B and first in C. Janice Hollowell and Jean Otney placed second in C.

The East-West winners were Klee Zaricky and Sally Taylor, followed by Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks at second in A, second in B and first in A. Paul Heitzman and David Piro placed third in A.

On Oct. 19, the club’s game was directed by Virginia Seaver. Bill Hamilton and Mark Osborne placed first in A and B, with Harry Shaffer and Lynn Hui at second in A. Betty Collier and Virginia Seaver placed third in A, with David Piro and Paul Heitzman in fourth place.

Ann Thompson and Catherine Blumenfeld were fifth in A, second in B and first in C, followed by Florine Creek and Gladys Baim at third in B and second in C. Sally Taylor and Yvonne Hedges were fourth in B.

¢The Kaw Valley Bridge Club conducted a special all-day game Oct. 20 with lunch. Ten teams participated in the Swiss team event, which was directed by John Glagola.

Eldon Herd, Greg Hazen, Bobby Patton and Elle Patton took first place. In second place were Nita Scales, Chris Lane, Jim Stewart and Emily Foster. Terry Tolar, Lynn Hui, Florine Creek and Madelyn Jenks were third, and fourth place went to Lois Jones, Jeffrey Nash, Albert Ballard and Earle Core.

¢The Betty Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Oct. 16 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. After the DAR ritual and flag salute, members introduced themselves.

The vice regent provided copies of the president general’s message and pointed out the main points. The National Defense report was read, and officer and committee reports were given.

After the meeting, Stacy Cope, the chapter’s Insignia Committee chairwoman, talked about pins and their proper placement on members’ ribbons. Members met with Glenda Scherbon, a JE Caldwell representative, to look at and buy pins.

The group’s next meeting is set for 10 a.m. Nov. 17 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, 1429 Kasold Drive. Aliene Dieber will give a presentation on aprons through the years. For more information, contact Shari Johnson at 843-6199.

¢The Monday Evening Bridge Club’s game Oct. 22 was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South winners were led by Harry Shaffer and Jambo Zhang, with Ed Howard and Robert Hemenway in second place. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough placed third, with Earle Core and Albert Ballard placing first in B.

The East-West winners were James Kelley and John Hickey at first in A, followed by David Piro and Peter Petillo. Craig Huneke and Jeremy Martin were third in A, first in both B and C, followed by Pat Musick and Jolene Andersen at second in B and C.

¢The University Bridge Club announces results for its Oct. 20 meeting. Hosts were Florence McNicoll, Alice Akin and Virginia Williams.

Blue winners were Al Smith, first; Virginia Williams, second; Dan Harden, third; Harold Riehm, fourth; and John Golden, fifth.

Pink winners were Lois Liebert, first; Carol Smith, second; Carolyn Harden, third; Ruth Harwood, fourth; and Ailene Bocquin, fifth.
