Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 26, 1907: “Four children, all girls, were born early today to Mrs. John Barben, wife of a prosperous Swiss farmer living near Sigel. All are of good size and of healthy development and the mother seems to be doing well. The babies weighed about four pounds each. Mrs. Barben was already the mother of eight children and now she has an even dozen. She is 36 years old. : City council members will hold an open meeting Monday night to discuss the proposed franchise for a street railway company.”
