Asking Lawrence police to check your property while you are out of town just got easier.

You can now request a property check on the police Web site at www.lawrencepolice.org. Information the police need to make the checks can be provided in an online form.

“Once submitted and approved, it is in the computer system and the officers can retrieve that information on their computers in their cars,” Sgt. Paul Fellers said.

Officers will then check the properties in their districts when they have time, Fellers said.

“This is an additional step you can take to ensure your property is going to be safe,” he said.

If someone doesn’t have access to a computer, police will still take property requests over the phone.
