Professional manner

The unprofessional handling of an item on Tuesday’s agenda reflects poorly on the Lawrence City Commission.

Thanks and congratulations to Lawrence City Commissioner Boog Highberger for speaking up on the importance of the commission and its members acting and conducting the business of the city in a professional manner.

A matter was brought before the commission Tuesday night on a rush-rush basis that didn’t conform with normal commission notification and handling of such matters. In addition to the hasty manner in which the matter was placed on the agenda, there were other significant omissions, all of which will expose the commission and the city to much derision and many jokes.

The agenda item didn’t include the name of the event (Bras Across the Kaw) and made no mention of women’s undergarments being displayed on the bridge.

“I thought it was a little crass to not have the name of the event on the agenda,” Highberger said.

“It seems like it was an attempt to slip it under the radar.”

We agree.
