Professional manner

The unprofessional handling of an item on Tuesday's agenda reflects poorly on the Lawrence City Commission.

Thanks and congratulations to Lawrence City Commissioner Boog Highberger for speaking up on the importance of the commission and its members acting and conducting the business of the city in a professional manner.

A matter was brought before the commission Tuesday night on a rush-rush basis that didn't conform with normal commission notification and handling of such matters. In addition to the hasty manner in which the matter was placed on the agenda, there were other significant omissions, all of which will expose the commission and the city to much derision and many jokes.

The agenda item didn't include the name of the event (Bras Across the Kaw) and made no mention of women's undergarments being displayed on the bridge.

"I thought it was a little crass to not have the name of the event on the agenda," Highberger said.

"It seems like it was an attempt to slip it under the radar."

We agree.

A Lawrence City Commission meeting with significant omissions, unprofessional conduct, and that possibly exposed the city to much derision and many jokes. This is news why? I guess Boog's Dada Dayz have slipped from memory. http://www2.ljworld.com/photos/2005/dec/28/71802/

Yet another LJW award winning editorial with a significant omissions, lacking in the most basic of professional journalistic standards, exposing the World Company to much derision and many jokes.

Headline suggestion: Bras stretchers give City Commission the slip?

I agree; the Loony Political Theatre group should have been given ample notice so they could organize a protest. The purpose of the protest? That someone came up with an idea for a community event that resembles a protest without clearing it through them first.

I think it's great Lazer is putting together a piece of art to support local women's issues. Shame on The World Company for only welcoming freedom of expression from select groups.
