Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 23, 1907: “Our Carry Nation reportedly got 75 days in a Washington work house for getting too noisy in a post office. She was also fined, but refused to pay. She had invaded the post office and was booked for disturbing the peace when she was not allowed to deliver a lecture on the evils of cigarette smoking. : The city council heard last night that though the city water supply is better, it still has too much bacteriological contamination. : Hooray! Christmas trees are going to be cheaper this year. Some say they have been so high they have not been able to afford anything to use for decoration.”
