KU soccer plays Texas to 0-0 tie

? Kansas University senior goalkeeper Colleen Quinn made seven saves for her second consecutive shutout as Kansas University’s soccer team played sixth-ranked Texas to a scoreless tie Sunday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The Jayhawks, unbeaten in their last four matches away from the Jayhawk Soccer Complex, move to 4-9-4 overall and 2-2-3 in the Big 12 Conference. The four draws are a team record for one season. The Longhorns are 11-2-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the conference.

Quinn made several key saves throughout the match as the Jayhawks were outshot 17-12 and had six fewer corner kicks (7-1). Quinn was tested often in the first half, making four saves. None was bigger than her sprawling save on Texas’ Alisha Ortiz. Ortiz got a step ahead of the nearest Jayhawk defender, dribbled in and fired one from about 12 yards out. Quinn dived to her right and deflected the ball safely away.

The Jayhawks had chances of their own as they outshot Texas in the second half, 7-4, and in the second overtime, 4-3. Sophomore Monica Dolinsky led the team with five shots, two on goal.

KU tested Longhorns goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger on several occasions, with the closest encounter occurring in the final seconds of the second overtime. Following a Texas foul, Dolinsky took the free kick from about 25 yards out and bounced a shot off the right post.

Quinn’s shutout marks the first time this season the Jayhawks have held opponents scoreless in consecutive contests.
