Man charged after car left in path of train

? Johnson County authorities have arrested a man after a train demolished a car that was intentionally left on railroad tracks.

Deputies said the train’s locomotive was damaged in the crash at a BNSF crossing in Edgerton about 11:30 p.m. Thursday. They said the man parked the vehicle on the tracks, and that the train’s crew saw him walking on a nearby road just before the collision.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said the man was jailed on charges of criminal damage to property and aggravated assault, based on the danger posed by his actions and his disregard for others.

Authorities said the man admitted parking the car on the tracks because he was contemplating hurting himself, but reconsidered.
