Towner tied for 21st

? Alvamar Country Club head golf professional Randy Towner shot a 69-73 to position himself to make the cut in the Callaway Senior PGA Professional National Championship on Thursday and Friday.

Rain suspended play for two hours and 45 minutes Friday, preventing 132 golfers from completing their second rounds. The field of 264 will be trimmed to the low 70 scorers and ties when the second round is completed, which is scheduled for this morning.

Towner was seven strokes off the lead, tied for 21st, among the 132 golfers who finished. The low 35 finishers in the tournament will qualify for the 2008 Senior PGA Championship.

Towner qualified for the 2007 U.S. Senior Open, but was disappointed after shooting 84-84.

“I had been waiting a long time to play another tournament round after the Senior Open, and I feel much better now,” Towner said.
