Haskell football back home

Home. Home at last.

After four straight road games, Haskell Indian Nations University’s football team will finally run onto its own field again today.

The Fightin’ Indians, who haven’t played in Lawrence since Sept. 9, will tangle with Southwestern Assemblies of God U. as part of homecoming weekend.

Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. at Haskell Stadium.

One aspect of today’s game is a certainty. The victor will lose the goose egg on the left side of its win-loss column. SAGU has lost all seven of its outings, while the Indians are 0-6.

After scoring only 10 points in its first three outings, Haskell’s offense has erupted for 57 points in the last three games. The defense, however, has surrendered 127 points during that span.

Haskell also will be at home a week from today, tangling with Peru State in another 1 p.m. contest. The Tribe’s last two games, however, will be on the road – Nov. 3 against Avila in Kansas City, Mo., and Nov. 10 at Waldorf (Iowa) College.
