Boy Scouts and leaders in Troop 65, Baldwin City, received numerous awards and recognitions during a Court of Honor on June 4 at the Scout Cabin.

Evan Wilson was recognized for completing the rank requirements for Eagle Scout. Scouts who earned rank advancements included Patrick Deitz, Star; Stephen Beegle, First Class and Second Class; Zach Garrett and Austin Kraus, First Class; and Jacob Brungardt, Nathan Clem, Aaron Elliott, Dylan Slavin and Jack Mitchell, Scout.

Brandon Baltzell and Evan Wilson were recognized for completing merit badges.

Scouts who received service stars and/or flag pins included Jesse Austin, Brandon Baltzell, Thomas Bollig, Alex Coffey, Keenan Coffey, David Cook, Justin Cook, Willie Cowley, Matt Davis, Patrick Deitz, Ben Foster, Zach Garrett, David Garrison, Mac Halpin, Royce Harrison, Josh Hoffman, Jake Hogsett, Ryan Hundley, Brian Jones, Logan Keener, Austin Kraus, Andrew Morgan, Sam Richards, Kirsten Shuck, Will Simmons, Dylan Slavin, Colby Soden and Evan Wilson.

Adult leader Martin Pressgrove received a 16-year service star, and leader David Garrison earned a 10-year service star. Other adults who received a service star and/or a flag pin include Thomas Anderson, Kirk Brown, Barbara Coffey, Todd Coffey, Bret Jones, Betty Lawrenz, Robert Lawrenz, John Richards, Mark Shuck and Virginia Wilson.

Members also received a patch commemorating the 76th anniversary of the first Troop 65 summer camp at Theodore Naish Scout Reservation, near Bonner Springs.

¢Members of Boy Scout Troop 65, Baldwin City, attended summer camp at the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation near Bonner Springs from June 10-16.

The troop earned the best campsite award on Wednesday, and the commissioner’s Best Overall Campsite Award at the end of the week.

The Scouts earned several merit badges and camping beads, to be awarded at a future Court of Honor.

Several Scouts joined or advanced in the Order of the Arrow, an honorary camping society. Ordeal members were Trey Anderson, Josh Hoffman, Austin Kraus and Andrew Morgan. Brotherhood members were Brandon Baltzell, Keenan Coffey, David Cook, Justin Cook and Colby Soden. Elangomats were Brian Jones, James Simmons and Sam Richards.

Trey Anderson and Keenan Coffey mastered the COPE course. Patrick Deitz earned scuba certification. Matt Davis and Colby Soden served on staff.

Other Scouts who attended were Callan Anderson, Stephen Beegle, Thomas Bollig, Jacob Brungardt, Nathan Clem, Ben Foster, Zachary Garrett, Nick Hagen, Mac Halpin, Royce Harrison, Ryan Hundley, Jack Mitchell and Dylan Slavin. Adult leaders were Joe Bollig, Robert Lawrenz, John Richards, Michael Slavin, Tom Anderson and Rick Deitz.

Justin Cook completed Brownsea leadership training one week after attending Camp Naish.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 53, chartered to Christ Community Church, Lawrence, canoed 14 miles of the Niangua River near Bennett Spring, Mo., on Sept. 29.

The group finished their trek with a steak supper cooked over an open fire.

Scouts attending were Alex McKinsey, Connor Chestnut, Dawson Conway, Elliot Klopp, Joey Cunningham, Joey Waisner, John Hambleton, Jordan Cuttell, Justin Saathoff, Luke Lesslie, Patrick Shields, Peter Lesslie and Ryan Schulteis. Also attending were adult leaders Bill Shulteis, Eric Muetz, Glen Sohl, Jeff Hambleton and Roger Rieder.
