The alumni of University High School, a second high school in Lawrence from 1911 to 1950, will have a reunion with a reception at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 20 in the Kansas Union’s Centennial Room and a noon buffet in the Union’s Pine Room.

University High School, originally Oread Training School, was used by KU School of Education students to gain practical teaching experience.

The annual Santa Fe Trail Historical Society picnic will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Black Jack Cabin, off U.S. Highway 56. The society will provide barbecue and drinks; please bring a side dish and your own tableware. Folding chairs will be provided. The dinner will be followed by music and short business program. The public is welcome.

Nicholas and Wanda Dickenson, Lawrence, announce the birth of their daughter, Alana Marie Dickenson, born Oct. 6, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Alana’s maternal grandparents are Carmen Santana-Deliz and Raul Cuadrado-Orlando. Paternal grandparents are Calvin and Anita Dickenson. Great-grandparents are Ben and Toby Rash, and Maria Orlando.

Ben Bell, Lawrence, was elected executive treasurer of the Student Government Association at Garden City Community College. Bell will serve during the 2007-08 year.

Linda Bailey Knoeck received a master’s degree in marine environmental science from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

A 1996 graduate of Lawrence High School, Knoeck is employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Palm Beach Gardens Regulatory Office in Palm Beach, Fla.

She resides in Palm Beach with her husband, Corey, and children, Avery, 4, and Triton, 1.

John Studdard, Lawrence, recently returned from the 25th annual Kansas Silver Haired Legislature session as a delegate from Douglas County. The organization, established by the Kansas Legislature, consists of individuals 60 and older elected by their peers to develop bills and resolutions of interest to seniors and their families.

The group met Oct. 1-3 in Topeka.
