Area roundup: Gimzo passes Perry past Tongie, 34-13

Shane Gimzo passed for two touchdowns and ran for two others to lead Perry-Lecompton High to its sixth football victory in seven outings, a 34-13 victory Friday night over Tonganoxie.

Gimzo tossed touchdown passes of 17 yards to Joel Gantz and 14 yards to Dylan Harrell, and scored on runs of 10 and 5 yards.

Gimzo completed 8 of 16 for 120 yards, and Caleb Denton had 10 carries for 118 yards and a 57-yard touchdown run.

For Tongie, Jeremy Carlisle rushed for 101 yards on 12 carries.

Perry-Lecompton (6-1) will entertain Jefferson West on Friday. Tonganoxie (1-6) and will play host to Atchison on Friday.

Eudora 49, Spring Hill 12

Eudora – Eudora High continued its winning ways Friday.

The Cardinals’ offense scored four touchdowns on the ground and three through the air. The defense, anchored by junior Logan Alvarez’s four sacks and a ball-hawking secondary, also was stout, shutting out the Broncos in the first half.

Eudora improved to 7-0.

Silver Lake 63, Oskaloosa 0

Oskaloosa – Silver Lake scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and three more in the second.

Mill Valley 31, Roeland Park Miege 27

Shawnee – Nicholas Woods’ one-yard touchdown run with 1:47 remaining capped Mill Valley’s game-winning 60-yard drive.

An eight-yard touchdown run by Woods tied the game at 24 earlier in the fourth quarter. Miege went ahead, 27-24, on a 24-yard field goal by Mike Purk.

Woods totaled 225 yards on 37 carries.
