Lawrence resident wins the lottery … again

? Richard Bastemeyer of Lawrence on Friday won his second $25,000 Kansas Lottery prize in three months.

“I could use more Fridays like this,” Bastemeyer said.

He won the $25,000 on a $5 Casino Riches scratch-off ticket. On July 6, he won another $25,000 on a $5 American Idol scratch ticket.

Bastemeyer, who works for Hamm’s Inc., said he stopped at the Kwik Shop at 3440 W. Sixth St., on his way to work Friday.

“It’s my usual routine. Every day, I buy ice for work and a couple of scratch tickets. When I called my wife, Karen, she couldn’t believe I’d won again,” he said.

After convincing his wife he had won again, he called his boss and told him he would be late to work.

“I didn’t want to take the chance of losing my ticket. It would’ve been nice to take the day off but we’re short-handed,” he said.

Bastemeyer, who has two daughters, said he is undecided how he will spend his winnings.

Bastemeyer isn’t the only multiple winner announced by the Lottery this week.

Terry Busing of Shawnee, won his fifth grand prize in the Lottery’s second-drawing contests, where participants mail-in losing tickets for a chance to win in drawings.

In his last win, Busing received a Land Pride Trekker utility vehicle and trailer, $1,000 cash, and a lifetime hunting and fishing license from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
