Sesquicentennial Point to be dedicated
The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will host the Sesquicentennial Point Dedication at 4 p.m. Oct. 24.
The park is at Clinton Lake near Eagle Bend Golf Course and the Mutt-Run Off-Leash Dog Park.
In the park is a path made of 151 stone steps, one for each of Lawrence’s first 151 years of history, that descend from the plaza; terraces with stone walls and native grass will mark every 50 steps. The staircase will stop halfway down the hill, at the site where a time capsule was buried in 2004, Lawrence’s sesquicentennial year.
At the crest of the hill is a circular plaza that includes seating and picnic areas.
In case of rain, the dedication will be postponed to 4 p.m. Nov. 2.
