Comments sought on southeast area plan

City and county planners are looking for feedback on a plan that spells out how to develop a large area southeast of Lawrence.

Lawrence-Douglas County planners will host a meeting from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St., to take comments on the draft of the Southeast Area Plan.

The area includes about 1,300 acres bounded by Noria Road on the east, the Wakarusa River on the south, O’Connell Road to the west, and Kansas Highway 10 to the north.

The plan calls for a mix of uses. They include:

¢ Industrial development along Kansas Highway 10.

¢ A small neighborhood commercial center just south of the Douglas County Jail.

¢ High-density residential development just east and south of the Douglas County Jail.

¢ Low-density residential in much of the area just north of North 1300 Road and on the property south of North 1300 Road.
