From the Lawrence Daily World of Oct. 8, 1907: “Joseph J. Eddy was sworn into office as county treasurer today. He was elected last fall but owing to a peculiarity of the law did not take his office until 10 months after his fellows on the ticket had been sworn in. : Toxicologists have determined through an autopsy that there was no trace of poison in the remains of L.J. Perkins. Insurance people had sought the procedure after there were reports he had died by suicide rather than accident. Considerable money was involved since Perkins was insured for more than $60,000.”
