Seahawks finish 2-2 at Maranatha tourney

? Seabury Academy’s volleball team went 2-2 at the five-team Maranatha tourney.

Seabury beat KC Hogan Prep, 25-15, 25-22, and Christ Prep, 25-19, 19-25, 25-13, and lost to Olathe Christian, 25-18, 11-25, 16-25, and Maranatha, 15-25, 20-25.

Junior Bria Phipps had 19 kills, 10 service aces and two blocks. Ninth-grader Angela Grimes had 10 kills, and sophomore Calli Noller had eight kills and nine service aces.

“It was fun experiencing some success,” coach Craig Friedrichsen said. “Even the match we lost in three games we thought we had chances to win.

“We are coming to the end of the season. I told the kids a month ago we’d keep improving. We’re doing that. That’s fun.”

The Seahawks had won one match entering the day.

Seabury plays at Oskaloosa Thursday.
