City and county officials began a series of meetings aimed at seeking a better and more harmonious way to operate and administer the local mental health program. There had been recent problems of discord about administration and finance.

The Pentagon froze $350 million in proposed military building contracts and suspended some other federal construction work because of the costs of the Vietnam War. However, it was believed Perry Lake work funds would beat the deadline.

Local traffic fines were increased for three violations: speeding, driving on sidewalks and improper registration. Judge George Catt announced the hikes following a growing rash of such activity, particularly speeding. As for the driving on sidewalks, a number of student violators had been noted and some cited and the penalties were to be far sterner, Catt said.
