Area roundup: Eudora rolls over Anderson Co.

? Eudora High brought its nearly 42-point scoring average to Anderson County and ran away from Anderson County, scoring 35 first-half points to remain undefeated in football Friday night.

The Cardinals’ Travis Clarke got the scoring started, running for scores of 12 and 40 yards in the first quarter. Clarke scored a third touchdown on the ground and finished the evening with 153 yards rushing on 16 carries. Matthew Abel, who was responsible for three touchdowns last week, added a three-yard scoring run.

Eudora improved to 6-0 and will play host to Spring Hill on Friday.

Prairie View 36, Wellsville 12

Wellsville – After a scoreless first quarter, Prairie View used a 29-point second quarter to hold off Wellsville.

Four different PV players scored touchdowns, with two of them coming on the ground from Andy Stanton.

Wellsville (1-5) scored the final two touchdowns, with the final TD coming as time expired, but it was too little, too late.

For Prairie View (4-2), Austin Moore ran for 86 yards on 25 carries with one touchdown.

K.C. Ward 28, Santa Fe Trail 0

Carbondale – Kansas City Ward got back to the .500 mark with a shutout victory of Santa Fe Trail.

Michael Delich rushed for two scores on the night for K.C. Ward (3-3), totaling 121 yards on 22 rushes. Quarterback John Oropeza completed 12 of 27 passes for 187 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Santa Fe Trail (1-5) plays Rural Valley next week.

Perry-Lecompton 14, K.C. Piper 7

Perry – Joel Gantz scored on a 10-yard pass reception from quarterback Shane Gimzo with 3:56 left as Perry-Lecompton clipped Piper.

A 55-yard pass reception from Gimzo to Kyle Morgison set up the winning score. The Kaws’ defense held Piper to a three-and-out on the ensuing possession and then ran out the clock for P-L’s fifth victory in six games.

“Our kids found a way to make plays when it counted,” P-L coach Mike Paramore said. “Our defense played well. Our goal-line stand was huge in the second quarter. We let them off the hook one time. Other than that, we played good defensively and offensively.”

Gimzo finished with 115 yards rushing on 22 carries and hit six of eight passes for 79 yards and two TDs with no interceptions.

The Kaws, who are tied for the Kaw Valley League lead, travel Friday to Tonganoxie.

Baldwin 48, Osawatomie 0

Baldwin City – A 28-point third quarter helped Baldwin cruise past Osawatomie.

“Our kids are excited right now,” Baldwin coach Mike Berg said. “We played a good game, but had a few penalties. This is a great way to end the first part of the season.”

The Bulldogs (4-2) carried a 20-0 lead into halftime and piled it on from there.

After halftime, Baldwin fumbled on its opening possession. The Bulldogs then scored four consecutive touchdowns. Sam Beecher rushed for two of those, breaking 44- and 48-yard runs.

Gabe Mason rushed for a 14-yard score, while Jared Hall scored the other touchdown on a 20-yard run.

In the first half, Kyle Smith caught a pair of touchdowns from Drew Berg.

Beecher rushed for the other score.

Baldwin will travel to De Soto next week to begin district play.

Gardner-Edgerton 43, De Soto 13

Gardner – Gardner-Edgerton celebrated its homecoming in a big way, and it came at the expense of De Soto.

The Wildcats scored the first touchdown, but Gardner put in the next six, then added a field goal for good measure as it piled up a lopsided victory.

The Trailblazers compiled 319 yards rushing and outgained De Soto by 285 yards in total offense.

De Soto put together a seven-play, 43-yard drive for a first-quarter lead, but Gardner’s Isaac Mallory took the first play of the next possession 85 yards to tie the game.

Dominique Peoples, who finished with 68 yards on 18 carries, scored on a four-yard run, and quarterback Zach Carlton found Justice Berry for a 46-yard touchdown pass and a 20-7 halftime lead.

Carlton scored two more times, once with a nine-yard run and later with a 42-yard pass to Ross Ditch.

De Soto finally answered with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Erik Hill to Jamell Townsend, but Gardner’s second- and third-quarter scoring outbursts already had decided the game.

De Soto (4-2) opens district play at home Friday against Baldwin.

Mill Valley 42, Lansing 6

Lansing – Mill Valley was unable to bounce back from its first loss of the season a week ago, dropping its second consecutive game Friday.

Lansing (5-1) led just 7-0 at halftime but scored five touchdowns in the second half. Chris Hill ran for touchdowns of 19 and 43 yards, and Bobby Hauver ran for one TD and threw for another.

Mill Valley (4-2) has a week off before taking on Overland Park Aquinas.

Pleasant Ridge 41, McLouth 0

Pleasant ridge – McLouth couldn’t contain Pleasant Ridge’s running attack, and the Rams remained unbeaten.

Pleasant Ridge outrushed McLouth, 246 yards to 59. Matt Melnert was the main contributor on the ground, rushing for 100 yards on 20 carries.

Melnert scored three touchdowns, with all of them coming from three yards and in.

Seth Johnson had three receptions for 77 yards and a score for Pleasant Ridge (6-0).

McLouth (1-5) takes on Jefferson County North next week.
