Former Kansas University librarian Robert Vosper returned to check the new library format here and was high in praise. Vosper, who had followed former KU Chancellor Franklin Murphy to UCLA, had an international reputation in his field.

State tax revenues were nearly $18 million below estimates for September and $23.5 million behind for the first quarter of the fiscal year. Fearing a $47 million shortfall for the year, Kansas had mandated a 4 percent spending cutback but there were fears that would not be enough.
