Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 1, 1907: “A strong desire to do away with the conflict of jurisdiction between state and federal courts was the main topic of a meeting of the attorneys general of 15 states, Kansas included, in St. Louis today. Most of the trouble seemed traceable to the 14th Amendment of the Constitution since it seemed to do no good for negroes, for whom it was supposedly passed. : Those who depend upon coal will find that the prices will rise quite a bit as winter approaches. The hikes could be as much as 25 cents a ton due to an apparent scarcity of the black fuel. : Harvard and Yale will officially inaugurate the college football seasons by opening this Saturday and are due to meet in their traditional battle on Nov. 23.”
