Make a Difference Day accepting volunteers

The Roger Hill Volunteer Center announces the 2007 Make a Difference Day on Saturday, Oct. 27. Volunteers for this annual event should register now to be matched with a project of their choice.
Projects may include painting, cleaning, archiving and yard care for local nonprofit organizations and community members in need.

Immediate volunteer needs
¢ Body Boutique will have its second annual WOW Run, a 5K run and 1-mile stroller-friendly walk, on Oct. 27.
Volunteers are needed to patrol the course and help with pre-registration packets and race day events. The race begins at 8 a.m., so some volunteers will be needed at 6:45 a.m.

¢ Cordley Elementary is looking for volunteers to provide childcare for individuals attending Love & Logic, a parenting skills class at the Virtual School. Volunteers are needed from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 22, 29, and Nov. 5.

¢ The Douglas County RSVP program seeks volunteers ages 55 and older to assist with upcoming special events, including the Douglas County Emergency Preparedness Fair, Make a Difference Day and holiday-related events.

¢ Volunteers are sought to help with child care from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday evenings at a support group for women with substance abuse issues. Volunteers will be working with children who have recently reunited with their biological mothers.

¢ Hospice will have volunteer training Oct. 10 through Oct. 13, for people interested in being a companion to assist a person nearing the end of his or her life.
