Old Home Town – 100

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 28, 1907: “St. Joseph, Mo., gave the Kansas and Missouri football teams great support today as KU won over MU by a score of 4-0 after the Thanksgiving Day game had been moved from Kansas City for the first time. Kansas finished with a 5-3 record after falling to Nebraska and St. Louis before defeating the arch-rival Missourians. Sam Forter kicked a 40-yard field goal for the victory. The future site of the traditional game remains in doubt despite the fine effort in St. Joe and the fact both teams took home something like $2,000 apiece. The crowd at St. Joe was estimated in excess of 10,000 and many in that region decided it was the place to be for Thanksgiving. Joplin had made an unsuccessful bid to get the KU-MU game. Some 300 to 500 went from here to St. Joseph by train. : Still on football, 14 youths have died in the game this year and scores of others were hurt, some permanently maimed and disfigured. Only two of the 14 fatalities occurred in colleges.”
