A longtime Lawrence institution had closed its doors. Bowser-Lee Mortuary, which had served primarily the black community for more than 40 years, had stopped operation because of declining business both here and in Topeka, where there was also a Bowser-Lee operation. Further, several key employees had retired and replacements could not be found, owners said.
