Hoffman Estates, Ill. ? Eric Gordon’s soaring act never got off the ground, and Indiana stayed down with him.

C.J. Anderson and B.J. Raymond scored 19 points apiece, and Xavier handed the eighth-ranked Hoosiers their first loss, beating them, 80-65, in the final of the Chicago Invitational Challenge on Saturday night.

Gordon had a rough night, and the Hoosiers could not get going without him.

Indiana’s super freshman scored 20 points, just his second game with fewer than 30, while hitting 4 of 12 shots. D.J. White did his best to pick up the slack with 16 points and 10 rebounds, but he had little help.

Xavier (4-1) outscored Indiana (4-1) 13-3 over the final 3:54 of the first half to turn a one-point advantage into a 40-29 lead, and the Musketeers maintained control the rest of the way. Anderson shot 7-of-14, while Raymond hit 7 of 12.

No. 1 North Carolina 73, BYU 63

Las Vegas – Tyler Hansbrough scored 21 points, Wayne Ellington hit a key 3-pointer with 2:06 left, and the Tar Heels made a late surge in the final of the Las Vegas Invitational.

Ellington scored 15 points and Danny Green added 14 for North Carolina, which barely got off to its first 5-0 start since coach Roy Williams’ first season in 2003-04.

No. 6 Louisville 64, Old Dominion 53

Las Vegas – Terrence Williams scored 20 points, Derrick Caracter added 13, and Louisville rebounded from its first loss of the season.

Earl Clark had 11 points and 15 rebounds for the Cardinals (4-1), who were upset by Brigham Young at the Orleans Arena on Friday to ruin a prospective matchup with No. 1 North Carolina in the final of the eight-team event.

No. 9 Washington State 71, Mississippi Valley State 26

Spokane, Wash. – Caleb Forrest scored a career-high 13 points, and Washington State beat Mississippi Valley State in the Cougar Hispanic College Fund Challenge.

Kyle Weaver added 13 points and Aron Baynes grabbed nine rebounds as Washington State (5-0) dominated the shorter Delta Devils from the opening buzzer.

No. 10 Michigan State 75, Oakland 71

East Lansing, Mich. – Goran Suton had a career-high 20 rebounds and scored 15 points, and Raymar Morgan added 20 points to help Michigan State beat Oakland .

Suton grabbed 11 offensive rebounds, snaring nearly as many of his team’s misses as Oakland did. Morgan was 8-for-10 from the field. The Spartans (4-1) trailed 25-18 with 5:47 left in the first half.

No. 12 Oregon 110, San Francisco 79

Eugene, Ore. – Maarty Leunen had 18 points and 10 rebounds, seven players scored in double digits and Oregon beat San Francisco. Tajuan Porter added 17 points for Oregon (5-1), while Malik Hairston scored 16, Bryce Taylor had 15, and Joevan Catron 14 points.

No. 14 Gonzaga 82, Virginia Tech 64

Anchorage, Alaska – Abdullahi Kuso had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Gonzaga defeated Virginia Tech for third place in the Great Alaska Shootout. Kuso was strong in the paint all night, scoring from underneath the basket and blocking three shots.

Seton Hall 74, No. 23 Virginia 60

Philadelphia – Seton Hall got the statement win it needed under Bobby Gonzalez. Gonzalez barked at the Pirates to turn up the pressure and they did for all 40 minutes, knocking off No. 23 Virginia.

No. 24 Clemson 96, Gardner-Webb 67

Clemson, S.C. – Cliff Hammonds had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead Clemson. The Tigers (5-0) trailed just once at 3-2 and handed Gardner-Webb (4-4) its worst loss in a season that has included a win over Kentucky, two losses to Connecticut and a defeat against Oklahoma.
