Hutchinson snags fourth straight title
Topeka ? Romero Cotton rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns and Deveon Dinwiddie added 191 yards and three scores, leading Hutchinson to a win over Olathe South on Saturday in the Class 6A state championship game at Yager Stadium.
The score was even at 14 at halftime, but Hutchinson (13-0) scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to win its 36th consecutive game and its fourth straight championship.
The senior class wrapped up their career with just one loss and four championships.
Class 5A – Blue Valley West 31, Wichita Carroll 19
Emporia – Mark Rogers returned a punt for a touchdown and Josh Schwart added an interception return as Blue Valley West defeated Wichita Carroll in the Kansas Class 5A state championship game at Welch Stadium.
Class 4A – Andale 31, Louisburg 14
Salina – Levi Neelly rushed for two touchdowns as Andale topped Louisburg on Saturday for the Class 4A state championship at Salina Stadium.
His longest, a 58-yard run on fourth down, broke a 14-14 tie.
Andale outgained Louisburg 212-70 on the ground to win its second straight state title.
Class 3A – Garden Plain 48, Silver Lake 7
Hutchinson – Logan Dold rushed for five TDs and threw for a sixth as Garden Plain crushed Silver Lake on Saturday for the Class 3A state championship at Gowans Stadium.
Saturday’s victory ended Silver Lake’s 27-game win streak.
Class 2-1A – Smith Center 40, St. Mary’s-Colgan 14.
Hays – Smith Center made it 54 in a row. The Redmen finished their fourth consecutive undefeated season with a fourth straight Kansas Class 2-1A state championship on Saturday at Lewis Field Stadium.
St. Mary’s-Colgan scored 14, the most allowed by the Redmen this season. Smith Center allowed only three touchdowns this season, including Saturday’s game. Tino King had 57 yards for the Panthers and scored the game’s first touchdown following a Smith Center fumble.
Joe Wachter also caught a touchdown pass from Kenny Wachter in the fourth quarter for the Panthers.
