Ralena McCurdy, Eudora, received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America’s Heart of America Council. The award honors McCurdy’s exemplary involvement in Scouting and her leadership in other endeavors to make the community a better place for young people.

McCurdy, an adviser for Venture Crew 52 in Lawrence, was one of 26 people who received the award, which is the highest honor a council gives to a volunteer leader.

McCurdy has served as an adult volunteer in the Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs for more than 42 years. Her accomplishments with Scouting include leading two groups of young people on treks at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and serving on the Pelathe District Committee. She also is active at Eudora Methodist Church and in PTA.

Recipients were honored at a recognition dinner, conducted Nov. 14 in Kansas City, Mo.
