From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 22, 1907: “Lyman Abbott, successor to Henry Ward Beecher as pastor of the Plymouth Rock Church in Brooklyn and one of America’s greatest religious leaders, has been secured to deliver a course of five lectures at the University of Kansas, closing March 15. He is internationally famous and an important addition to the speaker lists here. : Several persons were killed and scores of others injured in a battle last night in Vladivostok, Russia, in a clash of soldiers and drunken rioters. : Red Irwin of Chapman, Kansas, has become a star on the current West Point football team and is making quite a name for himself and for Kansas. He is six feet tall and 190 pounds and is considered a sure bet as an All-American guard.”
