¢Cordley School won the third place trophy in the elementary section of the Blue Valley High School chess tournament on Oct. 27.

Individual elementary medal winners from Lawrence were Aaron Simon, Quail Run, second; Eddie Wilson, Cordley, fourth; Robert Newman, Wakarusa Valley, fifth; Sam Stephens, Quail Run, eighth; McCarthy Fitch, Cordley, 12th; and Jackson McCabe Maher, Cordley, 32nd. South Junior High’s Cal Young was third in the junior high division; and Free State High School’s Kellen Cross was 11th in the high school division.

¢Free State High School and Quail Run School won first place trophies in the K-12 and K-5 sections of the Bridger Middle School Chess Tournament in Independence, Mo., on Nov. 3. Cordley School won second place in K-5.

In the high school section, Free State students Sean Stenseng, Thomas Reams and Thomas Clark swept the top three places, respectively. In the elementary division Quail Run’s Sam Stephens won first and Aaron Simon placed second.

¢Jason Buffalohead and Amanda Wamego Buffalohead, Kaw City, Okla., announce the birth of their daughter, Katzy Barbara Buffalohead, born July 27, 2007, at Ponca City Medical Center.

Katzy’s maternal grandparents are L. Carol Clark, Kaw City, and Raymond Wamego Jr., Pawhuska, Okla. Her paternal grandparents are Henry Collins and Barbara Stumblingbear Collins, Lawrence.

¢Mark Edmonds Jr. and Charly Edmonds, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Brandt Allen Edmonds, born Oct. 25, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Brandt has a brother, Brady, 2. His maternal grandmother is Beverly Beaty. Paternal grandparents are Mark and Janie Edmonds.

¢Robby and Tamara Lamb, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Silas Eugene Lamb, born Sept. 16, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Silas’ maternal grandparents are Harold and Barbara Johnson, Baldwin City. His paternal grandparents are Barbara Saucerman, Olathe, and Melvin Lamb, Kansas City, Kan.

¢Christopher Andrew Neal, Lawrence, is a member of the Science Fellows Program at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

The program for undergraduates combines a liberal arts education with focused science studies, in addition to a semesterlong internship.

Neal is a 2007 graduate of Bishop Seabury Academy.
