Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 15, 1907: “Half a dozen little curs infest Massachusetts Street and make it dangerous for women and children in buggies and riding bicycles to go on that street. Last evening three dogs started a fight on the sidewalk in the 700 block and two small children were badly frightened when they had to run for safety. Many know of the nuisance and realize there are dangers of being badly bitten. : The Baptists are holding a big reception and ‘house-warming’ today for their new pastor, the Rev. O.C. Brown and his wife. The reception will be at the parsonage on Tennessee Street and the church on Kentucky. The Browns came here from Emporia. Ministers from other churches will attend. : A dazzling display of diamonds is planned in the Gustafson window tonight, with $5,000 worth of diamond brooches and bracelets worth $1,000 on display tonight only.”
