Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 14, 1907: “The Douglas County Sunday School Convention opened here this morning and attendance was high. Many top speakers from here and elsewhere are planned and it shapes up as a productive event. : The Commercial Club is agog over the fact that it is being asked to pay more than $100 in repairs for an auto used recently to go to Topeka to discuss road building in the region. The club says the car was borrowed and that it is not responsible for the damage. Who will pay the bills is uncertain. : Turkeys are going to be scarce this Thanksgiving if estimates by poultry people are accurate. The crops have been slow in maturing in Oklahoma and Indian Territory because of bad weather and the hens seems to have had a hard time of it.”
