Food service training scheduled

Q: Are you offering a ServSafe Training for foodservice managers before the end of the year?

A: Yes, K-State Research & Extension in Douglas County is offering a one-day Manager ServSafe Training from 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Douglas County Extension Center, located on the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

This ServSafe food safety course, provided through the National Restaurant Association, will certify your foodservice managerial staff and provide an overview of basic sanitation procedures, from receiving food at the loading dock to serving it to customers. The cost of the training is $100 per participant (includes the fourth edition of the ServSafe Essentials book) or $65 (if you provide your own fourth edition of the ServSafe book).

As stated in the Kansas Food Code, one way the person in charge can demonstrate knowledge is by being a certified food protection manager.

The ServSafe program is recognized by more federal, state and local jurisdictions than any other food safety training program. This program promotes food quality and helps you understand and control foodborne illness risk factors. The course content includes food safety hazards; proper personal hygiene; how to provide safe food; purchasing, receiving and storage; preparing, cooking and serving; and cleaning and sanitizing. The course concludes with an 80-question certification exam.

To ensure safe food handling in your establishment, enroll no later than 5 p.m. Friday by contacting me at 843-7058 or skrumm@ksu.edu. Space is limited.
