Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 13, 1907: “Thomas White, 74, an old resident of Perry and one of our pioneers in the region, died yesterday. He had lived in Perry for 40 years, coming just after the Civil War. : County commissioners soon will have to appoint a new assessor and there is much interest in who will get the job due to the concern about fair assessments. : ‘In God We Trust’ will not be upon any of the United States coins designed in the future if President Roosevelt can prevent it. He said there is no legal warrant for the motto and that it does more harm than good.”
