Lawrence police are investigating a possible kidnapping after a woman told them she was held against her will and beaten over the weekend.

The 22-year-old woman called police Sunday morning after she escaped from an apartment in the 2500 block of Redbud Lane. She said she had been held by a 27-year-old Lawrence man who threatened her with a gun, and a 32-year-old woman who beat her with a kitchen utensil, police said.

The incident started at 7 p.m. Saturday and the woman managed to escape at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Police obtained a search warrant for the apartment where the woman was held but didn't find the suspects during the search, according to a police news release issued Monday morning.

An investigation is continuing.

I've posted this before: the problems on Redbud could be resolved by one large bulldozer. If we can close a bar for violence, what about apartment buildings?

Are these those old tired apartments with sliding glass doors? If it is, they were old 20 years ago!

I visited an older adult who lived in one of these apartments. Surprisingly, the apartment was in pretty decent shape. However, there was a constant fear of crime. If you think some scary people are wandering around on Mass Street, just take a walk past these apartments (if you dare). However, if you shut down these apartments, then the problem will move elsewhere within the city. Stiffer punishments for the criminals who make this place home would've kept them where they belong.

yes, scenic, I was wondering what kitchen utensil? spatula? measuring cup? knife rack? oh, she beat her with a garlic press, that's gotta be it!

I'm betting meat mallet--after sprinkling her with Adolf's.

    2500 block of Redbud Lane??

    That sounds about right:::..

You guys are idiots. Where a person lives does not determine what kind of person they are or what justice they deserve. Where do you propose this neighborhood's low income residents move? You all setting up affordable housing in Lawrence I didn't know about?

I wonder what all this was about, strange, but these people mabe be into this kind of thing.

Mr. Ramirez. You are right. That does sound about right. What a dump.

Ahh Yes!!! Bill Murray strikes again!
"You've never had anyone give you
    the Aunt Jemima treatment."
    - No, I certainly haven't had that.
    - First you get up on the grill
    - Stop it!
You're sticking on the bottom, dear.
    Keep hopping. Keep hopping, honey!
There you go. A little bit lumpy.
    You're a little bit lumpy
    - I'm not enjoying this! Now quit it!
    - You're not, huh?
    Maybe you need this.
    - What are you gonna do with that?
    - This. And this.
    Who's your friend?
    Who's your buddy?

    We are so wrong.

  14. Ragingbear (anonymous) says…

No. They have normal doors. But it's in the worst area. I used to live there. Believe me, it's bad. This isn't surprising. Not when you get random acts of violence like kicking people's doors in and such.

    LOL
    ...
yes, very strange indeed and makes you wonder if there's a "back story."

A 22 year old woman is reportedly kidnapped at gun point and then beaten, and you freaks are making jokes. Un-fricken-believable.

Bearded, I hope it isn't your daughter next time around. Scumbag.

  17. GretchenJP (anonymous) says…

Exactly. We weren't poking fun at the poor young woman, we were poking fun at the way the story was told by the LJW. Simmer.

Thanks beatrice, it was my friends daughter and they had it all wrong it was with a freakin hammer and they was more than a couple of people you people on here make me sick dont you have anything better to do

You are all idiots, it's not the buildings that are commiting the crimes. No more should need to be said about it. We all know that if you have lived in Lawrence for any number of years that if you are an addict of any sorts you can find you fix at one place or another in that area of town. The police should really be more active and shut it down like they are attempting to do in east Lawrence.

that's okay dots/gretch, bea has a bee in her little bonnet and is really very unhappy with her liberal life looking for revenge or something. very sad.

yes, it was the writing of the article. "kitchen utensil" leaves a very big hole to drive an assumption truck through. the ljworld often really fails in its writing on these short crime articles and needs to write with more clarity. sometimes, it is their use of english which is lacking.

please Bea, go take a pill or something.

Wow, this discussion board has taken a complete left turn.
