Oklahoma City ? Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said Sunday the Cowboys would have to “wait and see” whether leading receiver Adarius Bowman would be able to return from a right knee injury in time to play against Baylor this week or at all this season.

Bowman, an NFL Draft prospect whose 93.2-yard receiving average ranks 18th in major-college football, left the field after getting hit hard by Kansas University cornerback Aqib Talib for a three-yard loss late in the second quarter of Saturday’s 43-28 loss.

He returned to the sidelines in street clothes in the second half. Talib was also knocked out of the game, though he later returned and intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter.

“Any time you deal with a knee like that, just depending on how much swelling you get, you just have to wait and see,” Gundy said.

Bowman is easily Oklahoma State’s top receiving threat. With 61 catches for 932 yards this season, he has more than twice as much as the Cowboys’ second-leading receiver in both categories. He also has a team-high seven touchdown catches.

He had four receptions for 22 yards Saturday before getting injured and hobbling off the field.

“I think it’s smart for us to not make them aware of whether he plays or not. … He is a pretty big player in our offense,” Gundy said.

With Bowman out and fellow starter Jeremy Broadway suspended for breaking a team rule, freshman Dez Bryant had a breakout game with eight catches for 155 yards and one touchdown.

Senior Tommy Devereaux caught his first career touchdown pass on a 39-yard pass from Zac Robinson late in the third quarter, and freshman Damian Davis made his first career reception on a leaping grab of a 27-yard pass to set up another Cowboys score.

The group would be counted on to produce more if Bowman can’t return. Gundy indicated after the game that Bowman’s injury could be season-ending, and he didn’t rule out that possibility Sunday.

“It could be, and we may not know that,” Gundy said. “I haven’t talked to those guys yet. We’re not for sure, but it could be.”

Last season, Bowman had a Big 12-record 300 yards receiving in a 42-32 victory against Kansas. He caught 14 passes and scored four touchdowns in that game. He currently ranks fourth in school history in receptions (121) and yardage (2,773) despite playing only two seasons at Oklahoma State after transferring from North Carolina.
