Baker drops pair of hoops contests

Wildcats men, women both fall

The Baker University mens and women’s basketball teams both dropped their contests Saturday night, with the BU men falling to Ottawa, 85-70, and the women losing to Park University, 57-52.

Baker’s men trailed Ottawa 51-33 at the break but managed to outscore the Braves in the second half.

Ottawa shot 61 percent from the floor in the game, including 5-of-11 shooting from three-point range.

Baker shot 46 percent and made 4-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Aaron Toren led the Wildcats with 17 points, while Nick Iversen and Andy Hannon contributed nine points each in the loss.

Heath Baird also chipped in with eight points.

In the women’s contest, BU scored just 17 first-half points but raced out to 35 in the second half and nearly pulled off the come-from-behind victory.

Trailing 25-17 at the break, Baker outscored Park 35-32 in the second half but couldn’t quite get over the hump and dropped to 1-4 on the young season.

Audrey Bryant led the Wildcats with a game-high 17 points, while Allie Heinen and Kaitlin Schneden chipped in eight apiece in the loss.
