KU’s Mayrovich named top Big 12 swimmer

Kansas University’s Maria Mayrovich was named Big 12 swimmer of the week.

Mayrovich, a junior from Novorossiysk, Russia, received the accolade from the Big 12 Conference for the week of November 5. The voting period spanned from Oct. 22 to Nov. 5. Votes were cast by all Big 12 swimming and diving head coaches. Coaches could not vote on their own swimmers or divers.

During the time period, Kansas competed in three dual meets in Lawrence, against Missouri, Arkansas and Nebraska-Omaha.

In the dual against Missouri Oct. 26, Mayrovich captured four victories; her 200-yard free (1:48.85) was a Robinson Natatorium record, career-best time and a KU all-time performance. Against Arkansas, Mayrovich recorded four first-place finishes. Her time of 50.25 in the 100-yard freestyle broke her second Robinson Natatorium record. Mayrovich was also a member of both winning relays against Missouri and Arkansas.
