Officials said progress on building the Douglas County Ambulance Station at Lawrence Memorial Hospital was running behind schedule and officials were eager to beat the onslaught of winter.

Central Junior High teacher Patricia Boyd was named Kansas Teacher of the Year at a meeting of the Kansas Board of Education in Topeka. It was the first time a local teacher had won the award. She taught music and photography.
