Deciphera effort

To the editor:

I think the Nov. 3 Saturday Column hit the nail on the head. I think it did a very good job of portraying all sides of the debate. However, I have a few questions about Deciphera: Has the company licensed technology from Kansas University, or is Dan Flynn’s involvement with Deciphera unrelated to his research at KU? Also, is the company committed to pursuing a relationship with the university? If the company is indeed licensing tech from the university, then I think the city and university need to do their best to keep this company local.

I am not familiar with the specific work either Deciphera or Dan Flynn do, but this local partnership could help KU’s continuing goal to be a world leader in scientific research. I do not believe the lack of public discussion on the issue of the tax rebate was out of malcontent; rather, I think the leaders of this city tried their best to keep a very promising company local.
